George M. Steinbrenner Field
, formerly known as Legends Field
, [1] is a baseball stadium located in Tampa, Florida. The stadium was built in 1996 and holds 10,000 people. [2] George M. Steinbrenner Field serves as the home of the Tampa Yankees, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the New York Yankees. The stadium also serves as the spring training home of the New York Yankees. [3]
The ballpark had been known as Legends Field since its inaugural season in 1996. The park was renamed in honor of George Steinbrenner, the Yankees owner on March 27, 2008 , and was announced on February 14, 2008.
The dimensions of the field precisely mimic that of Yankee Stadium. Outside of the stadium are plaques commemorating Yankees whose numbers have been retired. George M. Steinbrenner Field is located across the street from Raymond James Stadium, home of the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
