Irving Plaza (Formerly The Fillmore) Wiki Information
The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza
is a 1,200-person club/ballroom at 17 Irving Place and East 15th Street in New York City that was built in 1914. It was known as Irving Plaza
until April 11, 2007.
It is adjacent to Union Square Park. The venue, which admits people 16 or older (unless accompanied by an adult), hosts many local and touring bands, theater, dance, and music performing events in a variety of genres.
It was converted in the late 70's from an old Polish dance hall to a rock venue by Andrew Rasiej. Over the years, the 3-level auditorium has served as Polish Army Veterans headquarters, a Yiddish theater, a burlesque house (Gypsy Rose Lee stripped here), and a boxing arena.
Live Nation, a spinoff of Clear Channel Communications, renovated and reopened Irving Plaza under the name "Fillmore New York At Irving Plaza" on April 11, 2007, with British songstress Lily Allen as the opening act. The nearby Fillmore East was a legendary rock club that was open from 1968 to 1971.
