Bassekou Kouyate
(born in 1966 in Garana) is a musician from Mali. His band is known as Ngoni Ba
.
He was born in Garana, Barouéli Cercle, 60 kilometres from Ségou in 1966 [1]. At the age of 12, he started playing Ngoni instrument. In the late 80's he moved to capital Bamako [2].
Kouyate's album Segu Blue
was released in 2007 internationally by Out Here Records, distributed by Proper Music Distribution in th UK. The album was produced by Lucy Duran . He has also appeared on number of albums by Toumani Diabaté . He has performed in several European countries .
His wife Amy Sacko is also a musician, who is also part of his band . His father Mustapha Kouyaté was a ngoni player and his mother Yagaré Damba a praise singer .
