Beverly Craven Wiki Information
Beverley Craven
(born 28 June 1963, Colombo, Sri Lanka) is a British singer-songwriter, best known for her 1991 UK top 5 hit single, "Promise Me". Her most recent album, Close To Home
, was released in 2009.
Beverley's first break was a brief stint in the late 80's touring with soul legend Bobby Womack and then thanks to Go West’s manager, John Glover, she secured a major music publishing deal with Warner Brothers. Followed by a development contract with Epic record label. She went on to record with Paul Samwell-Smith (Cat Stevens, Carly Simon and All About Eve).
Her self-titled album Beverley Craven was initially released in July 1990 to a disappointing response. However, TV appearances on Wogan and TV-AM helped propel the single "Promise Me" to peak at Number 3 on the UK Top 40 in May 1991, which in turn helped to promote the album whcih also peaked at Number 3 on the UK Albums Chart.
Subsequent singles, "Holding On" and "Woman To Woman" fared less well on the UK Singles Charts but helped maintain the chart success of her debut album.
In February 1992, Craven, 8 months pregnant at the time, performed at the ‘Brits’ Awards show (following her nomination in three categories), winning the Best British Newcomer Award.
In late 1993 she released her second album "Love Scenes". Although peaking at #4, the album fell quickly from the charts and the singles off it were not big hits.
Taking a break of 6 years to raise her three daughters, Craven returned in 1999 with the self-produced album Mixed Emotions. Due to the poor promotion by Epic, the album peaked at #46 in the UK and its proposed lead single, "I Miss You", never went past the promo stage. Shortly after releasing her third album, Beverley became disillusioned by the music industry and left the industry to raise her three daughters (Mollie, now 17, Brenna, 14 and Connie, 12) with her songwriter/musician husband Colin Campsie.
In 2004 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has since been given the all-clear. It's an experience that she has drawn on in her music.
in 2009 Beverley released her brand new album "Close To Home". Her first album in over ten years.
