Cut Off Your Hands
is a post punk band originally from New Zealand citing influences from british punk and jangle-pop/new wave ala Buzzcocks, Gang of Four, the Cure, the Smiths and Orange Juice combined with a heavy penchant for 60's pop of the Beatles to Phil Spector production. The band formed in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2006, originally comprising lead vocalist Nick Johnston, guitarist and backing vocalist Michael Ramirez bassist and backing vocalist Phil Hadfield and drummer, backing vocalist Brent Harris.

History
The band was originally called Shaky Hands, but was forced to change to avoid legal action from another band with the similar name

In January 2006 the band recorded 6 track ep (then titled Cut Off Your Hands) at Brent Harris' parents house in Auckland, NZ. It was released later that year via Speak n Spell records in Australia and New Zealand.
In April 2007 the band recorded a new EP, released in Australia and New Zealand in June of the same year. Titled
Blue on Blue
, the recording comprised four tracks and was produced in London by
Bernard Butler of Suede fame. Butler has played and worked with artists such as
The Libertines,
Manic Street Preachers and
The Verve. Single "Still Fond" was the groups first UK release, out on
Fandango September 2007. The band released their original
Shaky Hands
EP in October 2007 through LA indie label
IAMSOUND Records.
After recording singles with producers Flood "One Last Time" and Stephen Street "Turn Cold" the group made their debut full length record
You and I
with aforementioned Butler at
Edwyn Collins' Westheath studio in London April 2008. Singles "Oh Girl" and "Expectations" were released in the UK via
Sixsevenine recordings in June and August 2008 respectively. The album
You and I
was released on Speak and Spell/inertia/universal in NZ/Aust on 7 October, in USA/Canada on FrenchKiss Records January 2009, and will be released in Europe and UK via K7, and in Japan on 51 Records in October 2009.
The band has become known for an extensive work ethic, having been on tour since leaving NZ shores in late 2007. They've toured extensively in the UK, Europe and USA with Foals, Friendly Fires, Black Kids, Edwyn Collins, Ra Ra Riot, We Are Scientists. And in Australia/NZ with Shihad, Datsuns, So So Modern, You am I, Bloc Party, Wombats, as well as appearances at festivals such as st Jeromes Laneway (2007,2009) Airwaves (Iceland 2007) Falls Festival (2008,2009) Big Day Out (Auckland 2007 National 2008) Summersonic (Tokyo 2008) and most recently Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen '09.
On the 9th of February 2009 guitarist Michael Ramirez left the band, a party was thrown in his honour in Sydney. On top of this, drummer Brent Harris has been forced to step down from the band for 12 months due to an increasingly worsening hearing problem. Both members were replaced during the bands latest tour of USA/Canada by Jonathan Lee on guitar, formerly of Auckland indie band Collapsing Cities, and Elroy Finn on drums.
