Darren Hayman is the Essex-born lead singer, songwriter and guitarist with UK indie rock band Hefner, big favourites of the late John Peel. Hayman released four studio albums with Hefner (plus a compilation and a live album) and one album with The French. Hayman can now be found performing solo, with his ever-changing backing group The Secondary Modern, or as part of an indie bluegrass supergroup, Hayman, Watkins, Trout and Lee . The debut Darren Hayman solo album, Table for One was released in early 2006. He lives in London with his wife and his dog Beulah.
