David Roth, born in 1952 in New York City, is an American magician. His specialty is coin magic. Roth has lectured for magic enthusiasts around the world. He has also produced and appeared in two instructional DVD series: "Expert Coin Magic Made Easy, Volumes 1 - 3" and "Ultimate Coin Magic Collection, Volumes 1 - 4." [1] Roth currently works with Fantasma magic, a magic manufacturing and retail company in New York City. [2]

Books

Roth was a contributor to Richard Kaufman's book "CoinMagic." ^[3] Richard Kaufman also chronicled Roth's work in the book "David Roth's Expert Coin Magic." ^[4]

Awards

Roth was named “Visiting Magician of the Year” in 1974, and “Close Up Magician of the Year” in 1977 by the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, California, a club for magicians and magic enthusiasts.

Techniques & Tricks

• "The Hanging Coins" -- Roth took an ancient slight of hand technique and made it more deceptive with a technique he dubbed "Edge Grip." ^[5]
• "The Retention Vanish" -- Roth added his own twist on the execution of a persistence of vision vanish.
• "The Original Chinese Coin Assembly" -- the first published coin assembly that used bare hands.
