History
Deadstar Assembly formed in 2001 from a collaboration between Dearborn (ex- Sinful Lust) and
techno producer
Luis Duran. They recruited MuBo (ex- Basic Humans) to play keyboards. Realizing they shared a common creative vision, Mubo and Dearborn partnered to assemble the remaining pieces of the band - The Dro (ex- DeSaad) and Cygnus (ex- The C60's).
The band have toured with such peers as
Bella Morte,
Crossbreed,
Celldweller,
Genitorturers The Birthday Massacre and
Wednesday 13.
In 2003 Jay left and was replaced by DreGGs a graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Albums
First Album
The self titled debut contained 13 tracks, one of which was a cover of the 1980s pop hit,
Send Me An Angel
(originally by
Real Life), which had received significant airplay in South Florida (
goth,
Metal, and
strip clubs). The track, "Undone", appears as "All You Ever Wanted" on the soundtrack for
Project Gotham Racing 3 [1]. In December, 2008 it was announced by both Mubo and Deadstar Assembly through myspace that Mubo had contributed keyboard parts to a remake of their hit song "Breathe For Me". There was confusion of his re-membership into the group, which was later clarified to be false. At time of publishing of this article, there is no keyboardist listed for DeadStar Assembly.
On January 10 2009, the group made an announcement regarding the departure of drummer Cyngus and the addition of his replacement, Kriz D.K., via a viral video posted on the bands official Myspace page
Unsaved
Their second album, produced by DSA themselves and
Jeremy Staska,
Unsaved
, is a much more personal album. It was released on
July 11,
2006 by Pure Records
[2], with international release with Germany based label Dockyard1
[3]
Unsaved
was the first album to be recorded, and influenced by, current band members. MuBo notably left before the North American release of Unsaved, and has not played any post-album shows with the band. With the departure of MuBo, a new space was left open and it wasn't until the Unsaved release party at The Culture Room in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida that sKuz was introduced as his replacement.
The live footage from the Vol. 1 DVD was recorded at this venue. The Vol. 2 DVD release date was on Feb 26, 2008.
The band has performed in many notable concerts such as, Christmas Chaos-2006. They are recognized by their use of gas masks, laser beams and other props. The locals sometimes refer to them as the bastard child of
Motley Crue.
Coat of Arms
The band is currently in the studio working on their followup to 2006's
Unsaved
, with a pending release of their new album titled "Coat Of Arms". COA is scheduled to be released sometime in 2009. In May 2009, the band posted a song, "In Secrecy", off of the upcoming COA album.
[4] The tracklist for the album has also been released.
