Forro in the Dark
, formed 2002 by Mauro Refosco, is a New York band which blends the traditional Brazilian musical style of forró with modern genres. Refosco plays zabumba, Smokey Hormel and Jorge Continentino play guitar, presumably taking the part of the traditional accordion, and Gilmar Gomes and Davi Vieira play percussion, including the traditional metal triangle.
Guests on their 2006 album, Bonfires of São João
, include David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto, and Miho Hatori. Forro in the Dark are featured on Steve Earle's song "City of Immigrants" from his Washington Square Serenade
(2007).
Their song "Forrowest" featured in the film "Surf's Up".
