History
It Dies Today formed in August of 2001
[2]. The group was established in
Buffalo, New York by vocalist Nicholas Brooks, guitarist Chris Cappelli and guitarist Steve Lemke (who now plays bass). During their formation, most of the band members were only 16 years old. Their initial release was an three-track demo titled
Let The Angels Whisper Your Name
, recorded in late 2001. The following year, It Dies Today released an EP titled
Forever Scorned
, which led to the band touring the U.S. with artists such as
Between the Buried and Me and
Alexisonfire.
In 2003, Lemke switched to bass as guitarist Mike Hatalak joined. The group eventually signed with
Trustkill Records [2], home to hardcore heavyweights such as
Throwdown,
Eighteen Visions, and
Bleeding Through.
Fall 2004 brought about the release of the band's debut full-length
The Caitiff Choir
.
[2] The album has struck a chord throughout the media and consumer alike, having sold over 25,000 copies within four months and allowing the band to sell out two national headlining tours with support from
Twelve Tribes, Anterrabae,
Trivium and others. Alternative Press named them a "Band To Know" in 2005.
That year, It Dies Today went on a whirlwind of tours including supporting Bleeding Through,
Walls Of Jericho,
All That Remains, and Throwdown, as well as appearing on the
PETA-sponsored "Compassion Over Fashion" tour with
Most Precious Blood and
Remembering Never. The group also supported metal mammoths such as
God Forbid,
Machine Head and
The Haunted, as well as securing a spot on the coveted
Ozzfest second-stage in the summer of 2005
[6]. The following summer, the band was scheduled to take part in the
Van's Warped Tour but had to cancel due to a vocal injury sustained by Brooks
[7].
On October 17, 2006, It Dies Today released their sophomore album,
Sirens
[8], which was followed by a U.S. tour. On January 17, 2007 it was announced that Brooks had left the band and that his replacement would be
Jason Wood [9], whom they met while on tour with
Still Remains. Later that year, the band played
Warped Tour [10] alongside their pals in
Still Remains, as well Throwdown,
Poison The Well,
As I Lay Dying, and
Parkway Drive among others.
It Dies Today spent the latter half of 2007 working on their third album, breaking in early 2008 for a small tour before getting back to work for the remainder of the year. After several delays in recording, as well as alleged push-backs by
Trustkill Records, the new album
Lividity
has been scheduled for a September 15, 2009 release
[11].
On August 13th, 2009, it was announced that the band will be playing at Australia's
Soundwave Festival in 2010.

Trivia
- Chris Cappelli, Nick Mirusso, and Nicholas Brooks previously played together in a hardcore band called "Bullet vs. Eye."
- The title Freak Gasoline Fight Accident
is taken from the film Zoolander.
- IDT covered Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence". The song was featured on the Showtime network's series Masters of Horror Soundtrack.
- IDT recorded a song called Feliz Navidad
for A Santa Cause 2: It's a Punk Rock Christmas

- During IDT's "Enjoy the Silence" music video, the poem written by the man is actually the poem "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe, believed to be based on his young wife Virginia. The music video also shows a cat, which is possibly a reference to "The Black Cat," another one of Poe's works.
