Background
Jason Hewlett was born in
Salt Lake City,
UT in
1978 to John and Marsha Hewlett.
Jason began honing his performing
talents in front of his classmates at an early age while growing up in
Park City,
Utah. His vocal training came under the direction and encouragement of
Rosalind Hall at
The Waterford School in
Sandy, UT. Former
BYU Basketball Coach Tony Ingle recognized Jason's talents as an entertainer and suggested Jason focus his efforts on being a performer as opposed to his dream of playing in the
NBA. In
2000 Ingle introduced Hewlett to D. Chris Poulos, former
manager of
folk singing group, The 3 D's, and Poulos helped Jason secure his first paid performances at Johnny B's Comedy Club and Scera Theater in
Orem and
Provo, UT, respectively. In
August 2000 Hewlett saw
Danny Gans perform and has patterned his career after the great-late Las Vegas Impressionist.
Performing
In
2001 Hewlett's father, John Hewlett, helped Jason move from small performance venues in Utah to performing nationally with
Las Vegas based
impersonator troupe "Legends In Concert" where Jason impersonated Latin singer
Ricky Martin in
Myrtle Beach,
SC, as well as
Elton John in
Valley Forge,
PA until
2002.
The same year, Hewlett left "Legends In Concert" and began his focus on performing for
corporate events and private functions.
His show expanded from 2 characters to over 50, including
Alvin & The Chipmunks,
Louie Armstrong,
Michael Jackson,
Jim Carrey,
Stevie Wonder,
Led Zeppelin,
U2,
Justin Timberlake,
Billy Joel,
The Bee Gees and many more.
His high
tenor voice and
falsetto distinguish him amongst impressionists, although he is limited in that voices such as
Elvis Presley and
Frank Sinatra are too low for him to mimic. Reliance upon the
comedy of facial expression and
parody enable Hewlett to keep a fast-paced, highly entertaining show even if the impressions are not considered spot-on every time.
Hewlett performs at corporate retreats, conventions, private functions, and charitable fund raisers as the Headline Entertainment with his One-Man Show controlled by an
iPod, which allows him to customize his
material to the audience reactions as he performs. Jason is asked to return time and again by companies such as Coca~Cola, NuSkin International, Sinclair Oil Company, and others because his show appeals to a wide variety of ages and is considered
clean humor.
Career Highlights
In
2002 Hewlett performed nightly in his hometown of Park City, UT for the
2002 Winter Olympics.
In
September 2003 Hewlett's wife, Tami, sent a video to the
Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon to enter him as an
amateur performer. Upon viewing the tape the committee asked Hewlett to Headline his first Nationally Televised Performance on CBS with his impressions of
Eiffel 65,
Snow White, a broken answer machine, and his popular Facial Exercises.
In
February 2004 legendary Show Business Manager
Russ Regan (who discovered Elton John,
Olivia Newton-John, among others) saw Jason's video and recommended he begin studying under acclaimed
producer, Pat Caddick of Las Vegas.
Between 2005-2008 Hewlett opened for
The Temptations,
Merrill Osmond,
The Righteous Brothers,
Rita Coolidge,
Dan Tyminski,
Vince Gill,
America, and shared the stage with
Mickey Gilley.
In August 2008 Hewlett performed for the National Speakers Association, of which he is a
member, and opened for Speaker
Steve Forbes on
Broadway in
Times Square,
NYC at the
Marriott Marquis.
In July 2009 Hewlett is contracted to perform for the Meeting Planners International (MPI) convention in Salt Lake City, UT as the Opening Act for
Macy Gray (whom he does an impression of in his show).
Publishing, Speaking, Recording
In 2006 Hewlett published, "Signature Moves: Standing Out In A Sit Down World". Jason's Keynote Speech goes by the same title, which he has shared at many events for
youth and
associations.
In 2007 Hewlett released an
album of
original songs, "Good To Me", it showcases Jason's natural
voice and
songwriting ability.
Acting
In
1997 Jason played the lead role in "Crayoluv", a
short film by
director Tucker Dansie.
