Life and career
Joey Belladonna was the lead singer of Anthrax from 1984 to 1992, and was considered part of the classic-lineup (featuring himself, Dan Spitz, Scott Ian, Frank Bello and Charlie Benante), which reunited and toured during 2005 and 2006. His voice was featured on over 10 albums and sold 8 million records worldwide.
During that time he shared the stage with bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Kiss, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Alice in Chains, Dio, Public Enemy, Living Colour, Primus, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Testament, Overkill, Exodus, Helloween, and many others. Also during this time Joey starred in the underground cult classic "Pledge Night", and sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden.
While Joey was with Anthrax, the band was nominated for three Grammys, and he was voted #1 metal singer two years in a row in Metal Forces Magazine.
After Anthrax Joey Belladonna continued to make music in a band called Belladonna, which is really more of a solo project than a band since he is the only remaining founding member in often changing lineup. In the mid nineties Belladonna released its first self-entitled album, which was received well by both critics and fans alike. The second album, Spells of Fear
, was released in 1998 and it was heavily criticized for bad production and sloppy musicianship. The third album, or rather the demo recordings of the third album that was never recorded in a real studio, was self-released by Belladonna in 2003. It was a return to better songwriting and musicianship and it was well received by the fans.
Recently, work has begun on the new Belladonna album. Joey will collaborate with some new faces on this new album as well as other projects in the future.
