Career
Originally hailing from Chatham, Kid Harpoon began to play live locally at venues such as The Tap & Tin and Command House. He became more and more well known locally and featured on the
Urban Fox Press compilation CDs on which early recordings of Fathers and Sons and Tunnels were aired. He relocated to
Holloway,
North London, to pursue his music and became a regular at local venue Nambucca.
The first official release of Kid Harpoons's career was the "Riverside" single, released on 7 inch and CD on independent label Brikabrak in 2006. The single, which featured the b-side "It's Time", received acclaim from
NME
and particularly
Drowned in Sound . The follow up to this,
The First EP
, was released on October 22, 2007 on vinyl and on CD.
The Second EP
was released on February 18, 2008, again on both formats.
Band
Kid Harpoon's band are The Powers That Be,
which comprises Clayton Boothroyd and Tom Bonner (who both previously played with Tom Hull in the band Fuzz), as well as Jon Jackson,
Florian Lunaire, and Mr. Squeaky, as named on their
MySpace page. As of early 2007, they have begun joining Kid Harpoon for live performances and reworking old demos with the full band as well as recording new songs. They have been introduced by Kid Harpoon via a short
YouTube clip entitled "Powers That Be meets Hollywood". Kid Harpoon is expected to release his debut album in the near future.
[1] The tracklisting is said to contain only one song from Kid Harpoon's past releases, the song being "Riverside". The other tracks will consist of re-worked past demos and new material. The unconfirmed title for the album is
Maladies
. Kid Harpoon has also supported
The Kooks on their 2008 UK Tour.
