Kokhav Nolad
Ninet was the first winner of the popular Israeli
talent contest Kokhav Nolad
beating
Shiri Maimon into second place.
Shai Gabso came third in the final. Her winning performance was an emotional rendition of
Zohar Argov's classic
Mizrahi song "Yam Shel Dma'ot" (A Sea of Tears). To date she is the only woman to have won the contest, and the contestant with the longest-lasting and largest popularity after the show. She gained popularity on the show as a sweet, young small town girl singing ballads and participated aged 19 whilst doing her compulsory military service (she had her first audition in
IDF uniform).
In 2003 Ninet was awarded the title of "Most Notable Singer", which was a huge spring board for her carrier.
She also appeared again on the fourth series of the show to duet with eventual winner
Jacko Eisenberg.

Singles
Ninet's first official single (though it wasn't her first hit) wasn't so different musically from the well-known "Aviv wagner style" (for Israel), & her voice sounded exactly the same- so then what's left is the lyrics. The song is about whenever her boyfriend comes home- her stress disappears & she relaxes. The song is very dark though- she is very dependent on her boyfriend and says: You never tell me where you came from and I don't ask you. She uses the words "throwing up everything I swallowed" as telling him all that she kept inside; that was misunderstood as an encouragement for bulemia, which caused a lot of noise, of course.
This is perhaps Ninet's most optimistic song, though it has a hint of sadness in part of it, & that worked well for many listeners that were "with Ninet" in her sad songs & wanted to know new sides of her. The song appears in a commercial for the new Israeli TV series "Grass Tale" (Grass- not as drugs).
No doubt, Ninet surprised everyone in that song, though from the first song (the main title) & through "When You're Here" & the others, it was supposed to be foreseen by the listeners: this song deals mainly with the media that changed her not only from the outside, but also from the inside. In the chorus she even says, "come, come back to me", in a dialogue with herself. "She Knows" is the first official clip by Ninet; it is also the first time she was widely shown internationally.
The fourth single is the last single so far to come out of the album. It's a sad song that might be about her ex, Ran Danker or about her boyfriend Yehuda Levi: the lyrics can be understood as things she / he said back then, or as things she / he says right now. Anyway, the music (which was adapted by Idan Raichel & Gil'ad Shmu'eli) has the same "recipe" that Idan Raichel used for hits that came from artists that sang for his debut album.
She Knows (Video Clip)
"She Knows" is Ninet's only
video it was first shown on the
entertainment show "Y at 10", and shortly hit 1st place on the Israel Music channel Top 15 Videos chart.
Later on, it also reached the 2nd place on the
MTV's World Chart Express. The first Place was
Madonna's "
Jump". That was Ninet's first appearance on that chart.
It was
directed by Yariv Bar'El, produced by "Artsa" productions (Hafakot) and edited by Oded Ferber. The amazing special effects are by "Grabity"- Yoram Alt'Man. Ninet is the only person to appear on the video.
In the video, Ninet is in a small
white room, and slowly paints the walls in
Gothic red and black. It was mainly inspired by
Jamiroquai's video clip for their song
Virtual Insanity
.
Personal life
After winning
Kochav Nolad
, Ninet met, on the set of
HaShir Shelanu
,
Israeli
actor and
singer Ran Danker.
The two dated for almost 3 years, and eventually broke up, leaving hundreds of fans disappointed.
After the
break up, there were rumours talking about a new man in Ninet's life - Israeli
model and
actor Yehuda Levi.
Ninet and Yehuda hid their
relationship for a long time, but eventually came clean about being together.
Since then, Ninet and Yehuda are
Israel's biggest stars, and they appear in
tabloids all of the time.
Currently rumors insist that Ninet will get married on November with her boyfriend, Yehuda Levi.
Image
As Ninet became famous, she was nicknamed "Israel's Sweetheart", and was always pictured as a sweet girl.
After she had released her
album, which includes some dark and sad
songs, people said she was too affected by
Aviv Geffen, and she had a more rebellious "
rock-chick" image.
