Operahouse
is a five-piece rock band based in Camden London. Operahouse released their debut single, Man Next Door

being released on Marrakesh in January 2008 and in addition to getting even more airplay, scored rave reviews in the renowned music magazine, NME. The follow up for Born A Boy
was the single Diane

, marked a new milestone for the band. On the band's MySpace, they claimed that they were "throwing off our indie shackles" and that the music "has a slightly darker ... theme". [1]

History
Singer and guitarist Johnny Lloyd was brought up on
The Velvet Underground,
The Beatles and
Led Zeppelin. He started playing guitar at eight years old, then quit and took up the saxophone for a few years before deciding he preferred guitar. Originally from Newcastle, Johnny went to London via Rugby where he played football at school with Jimmy Cratch.
Bassist Jimmy Cratch started playing guitar with Johnny when they were about 15. He moved to London to study photography at Camberwell Arts College. When Johnny was looking for the right people to join the band he asked Jimmy to try out. But as Johnny and Alex Kaines were both playing guitar he needed someone on bass. That’s when Jimmy stopped playing guitar.
Guitarist Alex Kaines was introduced to Johnny by a mutual friend in a café in south London. “Johnny was making some music with some friends at home and he needed a new member”, recalls Alex. The two of them started writing songs together and the basis for Operahouse was formed.
Only 18, Ben Niblett has been playing drums for five years. A friend of the band pointed him in the direction of Johnny and Alex. “We knew immediately he was the right choice because he can really play and he listens, which in our knowledge of drummers is quite rare,” said Alex.
Dan White, the most recent member of the band (being the only member who joined after the band formed), was recruited to play the synths and keyboard, and also plays the xylaphone beat in Change In Nature. He is now a permanent member of the band, and appears in the videos for Change In Nature and their new up-coming single,
Genius Child
.
In 2007, the bands first single attracted the attention of
Dominic Hardisty, who signed
The Killers. Hardisty signed the band to his
U.K.-based label
Marrakesh Records which has release their last three acclaimed singles, Born A Boy, Diane and Change In Nature. The band have since recorded their debut album which is to be released in early 2009.
