Biography
Anderszewski was born in
Warsaw, Poland. He began studying the piano at age 6. He attended conservatories in
Lyon and
Strasbourg, the
Academy of Music in Warsaw, and the
University of Southern California Thornton School of Music in
Los Angeles.
Career
Anderszewski has made a number of recordings with
Philips and
Virgin Classics, as well as being featured in two documentary films by
Bruno Monsaingeon one (2000) capturing a performance of
Beethoven's
Diabelli Variations
and another (2008) follows Anderszewski as he travels, by train, across Europe on a concert tour.
In April 2002 he received the prestigious Gilmore award, given every four years to a pianist of exceptional talent. He has also been a recipient of the Szymanowski Prize (1999) and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Best Instrumentalist award in 2001.
Anderszewski has recorded, principally for the Virgin Classics label, works by Bach, Mozart, Szymanowski and, most recently, Beethoven. He has also performed in recital with his sister, the concert violinist
Dorota Anderszewska , who also served as leader of the
Sinfonia Varsovia when he recorded Mozart concertos with the group.
