Career
Robert Fisher was a key figure in the early days of
synthpop, beginning with the short-lived duo
Naked Eyes (formerly known as Neon) with
vocalist,
Pete Byrne.
Naked Eyes' two biggest
hits were their rendition of the
Burt Bacharach song, "
(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me"; and the self-penned "Promises, Promises" The arrival of
MTV is generally credited with aiding in their success. Despite this, and the success of their subsequent album, by the mid 80's the group decided to split up.
In 1987, Fisher re-emerged as one half of the
pop duo,
Climie Fisher, with
singer-songwriter,
Simon Climie. Together they took "Love Changes (Everything)" to the
UK #2 spot, while the
hip-hop inspired "Rise To The Occasion" also cracked the
Top Ten in the
United Kingdom.
Climie went on to do
production work with other
artists, including producing
albums by
blues-rock guitarist,
Eric Clapton, while Fisher seemingly disappeared from the
music industry.
Death
Fisher died on
25 August 1999, aged 39, following surgery for an illness which turned out to be
bowel cancer.
