La Notte

) is a 1961 Italian film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni. It is considered the central film of a trilogy beginning with L'avventura
and ending with L'eclisse
. The film won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival, and critically acclaimed film director Stanley Kubrick listed it as one of Top 10 favorite films. [1]

Plot
Giovanni is a successful writer. He and his wife Lidia visit their friend Tommaso who is dying in hospital. They leave together to attend Giovanni's book promotion party, where Giovanni gets caught up talking to everyone. Lidia sneaks off in a taxi through
Milan, going back to the neighbourhood where they had lived as newlyweds. Giovanni meets her there and later, they go to a night club after which, they visit a party held by a millionaire who wants Giovanni to write a book about the history of his company. Both flirt with others, each quite aware of what the other is up to. Later she phones the hospital and learns their friend Tommaso has died. When morning comes Lidia tells her husband she doesn't love him anymore.
