The Pensacola Civic Center
is a municipal arena located in Pensacola, Florida. It is owned by Escambia County and operated by SMG Management.
The Civic Center opened in 1985 and was used primarily as the home of the Pensacola Ice Pilots hockey team until the team's exit from the ECHL on June 23rd, 2008, and for various concerts and events. The Pensacola Civic Center has also had various guest speakers, including President George W. Bush in 2006. On March 9, 1994, the Pensacola Civic Center hosted the largest Rock for Choice concert in history, which was organized by the band L7 and headlined by Pearl Jam. [1]
Additionally, the venue served as the home of the 2004 Florida Springfest. Previously, the Civic Center served as the home of both arena football and indoor soccer teams. It was the site of WCW Battlebowl in 1993.
The Civic Center has a capacity of 8,150 for hockey games, and as much as 10,000 for non-hockey events. The arena contains of space and of meeting space. It has been the multiple-time home of the U.S. Roller Skating National Championships.
In March 2000, Britney Spears opened her first arena tour at the Civic Center. It was the first date of her Crazy 2K Tour.
