Ronald White was born in Hastings, Michigan to a lower class family on December 18, 1956. His father worked at a local gentlemen's club and White attributes much of his rough demeanor from his early years. His family is actually from Fritch, Texas where White take up residence when not on the road or in California. He served his country during the Vietnam conflict as a member of the United States Navy but when he returned home, he decided to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a famous comedian.

While in the Navy, White attributes his comrades in arms as coiners of his nickname, "Tater Salad" because of how much he enjoyed the dish. Once back in the United States, White struggled while paying his dues on the comedy circuit. He would ride from show to show in his old and worn truck and was forced to become a window salesman to make extra money. However, it was in 2000, after a long struggle to stardom, that White would become a household name in the American community.

White teamed up with fellow comedians Larry the Cable Guy, Bill Engvall, and Jeff Foxworthy to make the powerhouse comedy show, "the Blue Collar Comedy Tour." White became the opening act for this show, which played in over 90 different venues around the United States. Since his big break, White has produced a number of his own comedy albums. He is also an adamant supporter of his local community, but this is only one of many causes that he supports. He has been a proponent of helping wounded veterans coming home from the current Iraq War. His dedication to veterans and his many other causes led to him having his own dedicated day in the great state of Texas.
