The Ten Tenors Wiki Information
The Ten Tenors
(also known as TTT) are an Australian musical ensemble, with a strong live touring profile in Europe, Canada and the United States and a burgeoning recording career. The group performs a diverse repertoire in concert and on their albums; performing Queen standards, including "Bicycle Race", "Bohemian Rhapsody", and "Who Wants to Live Forever", a Bee Gees medley, and ABBA's "Dancing Queen", and switch gears mid-set performing opera tunes and native Australian tunes (including Men at Work). Their most recent album Here's To The Heroes
is heavily influenced by the music of John Barry.
The Ten Tenors’ innovation was to demonstrate a radically new form for the operatic tenor voice in ways that overcame a deep-seated resistance to cultural shifts inherent within this form. One of the ways this was achieved was through the innovative use of recording technology and digital signal processing as a composing and arranging tool. Thus some pieces of music were entirely originally composed, some were improvised-based utilising audio capture and cutup techniques (such as Sundance), and some were reinterpreted (such as Water/ Va Pensiero).
The Ten Tenors double CD (one live and one studio recorded) “Larger Than Life” CD was recorded in Australia and Germany and released in 2004 Europe and USA, with some of these tracks being released in Australia under the title “Tenology (The Best So Far)”. Andy Arthurs and Richard Vella were the recording co-producers. Some of these tracks drew on traditional opera repertoire, but many were reinvented for a broader non-opera going audience. Whilst this may cause consternation amongst some who wish the form to remain within certain well-defined boundaries, for many audiences and artists alike this allows for growth in this well-established art form without diminishing the importance of the traditional canon. This work has opened up new interpretations of operatic works and also influenced the formation of a similar project with an orchestra entitled Deep Blue.
The group's official biography says:
The Ten Tenors' album Here's To The Heroes
was released on August 26th, 2006. Its executive producers were John Barry, Matthew Hickey, and Ric Salmon. The album was produced by Simon Franglen and was recorded at Air Studios and Abbey Road Studios, London.
