One of the fun historical facts of the Boston Bruins is that they were the first NHL franchise to be expanded into the United States. They were a part of the original six teams that made up the early NHL League and have won the second most championships for an American based team. In their early years, the Bruins were a perennially good team behind Eddie Shore, as he led them to Stanley Cup titles in 1929 and 1939. The Bruins would win one more in 1941, the year he was traded.

It wasn't until the 1960 that the Bruins became a dominant team again. They did so by acquiring the team that would later be known as, "the Big Bad Bruins." Some of the star talent from this period in the club's history includes Bobby Orr, Ken Hodge, Phil Esposito, and Fred Stanfield. They ended a 29 year drought by winning the Stanley Cup in 1970. This team would go on to win the franchises fifth and final Stanley Cup in 1972.

With two Cups under their belt, the time of the Big Bad Bruins came to an end in the 1980's. Though the Bruins have not won a Stanley Cup since 1972, they have remained one of the premier teams in the NHL. Over the 1990's and 2000's, the Bruins have had a wealth of talented teams that included Cam Neely and Paul Coffey. Both of these players would join the ranks as some of the greatest Bruins ever leading this franchise to two Eastern Conference championships in 1988 and 1990.
