Robin Williams was born on July 21, 1951 to an affluent family in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout his early life, he was actually a shy child but always enjoyed doing imitations of family members as well as celebrities. He really didn't come out of his shell until doing drama projects in high school. This later led to his acceptance at Julliard, where he honed his skills as both an actor and comedian. Once out of school, Williams landed his first major role on the television show "Mork and Mindy" where he played a quirky alien.

In the late 1970's and early 80's, Williams honed his comedy skills by doing a variety of stand-up acts across the country. This included his first three HBO specials, which really caused his career to soar. Williams also expanded into the movies landing one of his best roles to date as the voice of the Genie from Disney's "Aladdin." Other notable movies Williams played in during the late 1980's and early 1990's were "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Dead Poet Society," and "Fern Gully."

It was in 1998 that Williams won his Academy Award for his portrayal of a psychiatrist in the movie "Good Will Hunting." Since the turn of 2000, Williams has had a hand in a number of notable movies like "RV" and "License to Wed" but has ultimately reverted back to his stand up roots producing two more standup comedy specials on HBO during the decade. Williams also expanded the repertoire of the types of characters he played as has taken on more sinister roles. However, Robin Williams remains one of the most talented actors in pictures and has a stand-up comedy routine that leaves each audience he faces in stitches.
