Dan Mangan Wiki Information
Daniel Mangan
(born April 28, 1983), better known as Dan Mangan
, is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Though he spent a considerable amount of his childhood in Ontario, Mangan was born in Smithers, British Columbia, and now resides in Vancouver. He is currently dating Michelle Hanley.
As a child, Mangan versed himself in his parents' old vinyls of The Beatles, Nick Drake and Van Morrison. By seven years old, his step brother had taught him how to play most of Abbey Road
in proper succession on the piano. [1] He began to be interested in acoustic recordings with the release of Nirvana's Unplugged
album. At sixteen, he started a band called Basement Suite with some fellow classmates and played gigs at local community centres. Basement Suite would be Mangan's introduction to the stage. In 2003, at 20 years old, he released his first acoustic EP, All at Once
, pressing 500 copies which were given away and sold throughout the Vancouver area.
With a bank loan and a small community of players who would offer cheap or free sessions, Mangan recorded Postcards and Daydreaming
in the summer of 2005 with local British ex-pat Daniel Elmes and good friend Simon Kelly. In July 2007, Vancouver-based independent record label FUM re-released the album with new artwork and an extra track, "Ash Babe", in Canada. Later that year, FU:M released Postcards and Daydreaming
in the US as well. The following March, the record was released in Australia by ABC/Warner. In March 2009 he released the EP Roboteering
, containing songs from his forthcoming album Nice, Nice, Very Nice
. [2]
Mangan has toured with such artists as Elliott Brood, The Acorn, Patrick Watson, and Hey Rosetta!. [3]
