Biography
Born in
Aachen, Germany to
Turkish parents, Savas' family moved back to Turkey when he was merely one year old. His father, who is from
Çorum, Turkey, was arrested because of his politic posture against the government in Turkey. As a result of his father's arrest, his mother was forced to return to Aachen, Germany with Savas. By 1987, his father was released and the entire family was reunited and relocated to Berlin. It was in Berlin where Savas first came across
Hip Hop music.
Savas lived with his girlfriend
Melbeatz in Berlin for an extended amount of time. As a result, the majority of Savas' beats were produced by her. Although Savas and his girlfriend are no longer together, they still remain "best friends." On a strange side note, regardless of Savas' provocative lyrics and bad boy image, he is a devout vegetarian.
Although Savas is popularly called a "Berlin rapper," although he resides in Heidelberg.
Carrer
The Beginning and rise to fame (2000-2002)
Savas startes his rap career with the
Warum rappst du
("Why do you rap")-EP which came out with rather provocative lyrics, like the songs "L.M.S./Schwule Rapper"
(L.M.S. (Lutsch mein Schwanz; Suck my dick)/Gay rappers)
. He first started under the name Juks and rapped mostly in English. He became successful through the groups
Masters of Rap and
Westberlin Maskulin.
In 2001, he left with M.O.R. his former label Put da needle to da records, because of personal and artistic differences. It released a diss track versus his former label chef Peter Sreckovic titled "Track gegen Peter"
(Track vs. Peter)
, where Savas gave reason for his exit.
2002 he founded his own label
Optik Records, where he released his first soloalbum titled
Der beste Tage meines Lebens
("The best day in my live"), for that he wonns the Comet. Kool Savas worked together with severval national musicians like
Azad,
Curse,
Samy Deluxe, and
Xavier Naidoo. He also worked together with severval international musicians like
Lumidee,
Royce Da 5'9",
Kurupt,
A-Plus,
RZA,
KutMasta Kurt,
Dem Franchize Boyz &
L.E.S.
Development (2004-2005)
With his record label tried he to build up other artists. He discovered for example
Eko Fresh and signed following artists DJ Nicon,
Melbeatz, Ercandize, Caput, Amar, Sinan and Moe Mitchell. The contract with ther rapper SD ended because off musical differences, also Spontan left the label to follow his friend SD. Since early 2005 Savas supported the rap tries of his younger brother Sinan, his cousin Dimi and his brother-in-law Igor.
During 2002 when
Eko Fresh turned successful, Savas and he began to dispute. Eko Fresh left the label and continued his carrer without his colleague and he reports back with his track "Die Abrechnung", a diss track against Kool Savas and other German rappers. Savas replied with this famous answertrack "Das Urteil".
