Wake the dead is a Northern California septet which blends traditional Celtic music with the songs of the Grateful Dead. They call themselves the World's First Celtic All-Star Grateful Dead Jam Band.
They have released three albums to date. Their debut self-titled album was released in 2000, originally released on Grateful Dead/Arista Records. Their second album, Buckdancer's Choice, named after a line in the Grateful Dead song, Uncle John's Band, was released in 2003, followed by Blue Light Cheap Hotel in 2007.
The band members are Maureen Brennan (Celtic harp), Cindy Browne (double bass), Danny Carnahan (vocals, octave mandolin, guitar, fiddle), Kevin Carr (fiddle, uilleann pipes, pennywhistle), Sylvia Herold (vocals, guitar), Paul Kotapish (vocals, mandolin, guitar, jaw harp), and Brian Rice (hand percussion).
