After being founded in 1883, the Philadelphia Phillies did not exactly set the baseball world on fire. Poor front office work, bad players and management, and the rival Philadelphia Athletics would draw more fans. However, when the "Whiz Kids" captured the both the city and countries attention, things started to change. The 1950's would be a golden era for this team and one of the cities favorite ballplayers, Richie Ashburn, would become the staple face of the organization.

After this time period, the Phillies organization fell back into mediocrity until the late 1970's and early 1980's. The city of Philadelphia was both blessed and tortured during this period as the team had some of the most dominant ballplayers of all time, including arguably the best third baseman to ever play the game, Michael Jack Schmidt. However, for all of their winning during the regular season, they would win but one World Series in 1980. The team had some ups and downs during the following seasons, but once again found their way to the World Series with a workhorse like club in 1993. While this team captured the fans heart because of their hard effort and "cool" nature, they did not manage to win the World Series, falling to the Toronto Blue Jays.

After the 1993 season, the Phillies fell back to their losing ways until 2006. A great core of ball players that include Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins helped the Phillies win their first back to back division titles in 30 years. In 2008, the Phillies answered the prayers of all the Philadelphia faithful with their second World Series title.
