The Los Angeles Kings were formed in 1967 as part of the great NHL Expansion of '67. During the "Forum Blue and Gold" era, the Kings struggled for four years but came back with a vengeance in '74, but the acquisition of Wayne Gretzky in 1988 cemented them as a serious playoff contender. They were the league leader in goals scored in 1989 and won their division in 1991. Now the Kings play their home games at the Staples Center.
