As far as expansion teams go, the Philadelphia Flyers, though only winning two Stanley Cups, have been the most successful. Over the years, they have the second highest winning percentage of any NHL team in league history, trailing only the Montreal Canadiens. This team was brought into the NHL in 1967 and made the playoffs in their first two seasons. They would draft Bernie Parent, who became one of the best goalies of all time, in their inaugural draft. Later it would be said that, "only God saves more than Bernie Parent."

In the early part of the 1970's, the Flyers started a trend of acquiring bigger and tougher players. This led to the formation of the famous, "Broad Street Bullies," who were responsible for the Flyers winning their only two Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975. The core of this team revolved around Parent in goal, scorers Bobby Clarke and Rick MacLeish, and defensive enforcers like Dave "the Hammer" Schultz and Bob Kelly. This particular Flyers team set forth a tradition of dominance and brutality that is emulated to this day.

The Flyers would come close to hoisting the cup several times after 1975, but they would fall just short. They won the Eastern Conference a total of seven times following the 1975 season. Over the years, the Flyers have had many great teams that have included players like John LeClair, Mikael Renberg, Eric Desjardins, Eric Lindros and Ron Hextall. They most recently made it to the Stanley Cup in 2010 due to stellar play from Chris Pronger, Mike Richards, and Jeff Carter. Unfortunately, the team was up against a true juggernaut in the Chicago Blackhawks and once again had to watch their on ice enemy take home the Stanley Cup.
