Working off the groundwork built in the 1980's, the WWF, at the time, had to change its name due to copyright laws to the WWE. The World Wide Fund for Nature (also abbreviated WWF) sued the organization because they did not have permission to merchandise overseas with those initials. This change was followed by a split in the action into two major sub categories that include WWE Raw and Smackdown. This new evolution in professional wrestling has made it even stronger as it has created its own subculture in the United States today.

WWE fans are so serious that the brand expands way beyond weekly television programs. There are World Wrestling Entertainment books that include autobiographies and stories based on WWE personalities, a music group that creates compilations of wrestler's entrance theme songs, and several retail establishments.
